Women Empowering Women*

It’s been a couple of days since I wrote a blog post, so I wanted to share with you one of my favorite events and experiences I had recently.
I don’t know if anyone has heard of Tree Sound Studios in Norcross, GA. Well, if you are recording artist, you have to try to record there (if budget permits) because it is by far the best recording studio in Atlanta. All of the A-list celebrities from Justin Bieber (I am a Belieber), Akon, Elton John, Lil Wayne, Chamilionaire, Yela Wolf (You name it, they’ve all been there).
So, how did I end up at Tree Sound? Well, funny enough… When I was 18 years old (the summer after my freshmen year of college), I called the studio asking if they are looking for interns. Yep… That was about 7 years ago (already? I feel so old!). I am a big advocate for music… So I started my first internship at TS, thanks to Mali Hunter. After an internship there, I quickly realized I didn’t want to be a music producer (it wasn’t my passion). But, it’s funny how life works out (god always had a plan).
I reconnected the Famous Mali (IG @iam_mali) who is a leader in the music industry, the general manager of Tree Sound Studios as well as a phenomenal cook (She has a cooking show on Channel 11 in Atlanta! Watch Here) at a Hublot event two years ago. I’ve always admired her because she is down to earth and she is inspirational.
“A woman can be a leader and a creator,” Hunter said at the event with Shanice from the TV show Flex & Shanice at Oprah’s Own Network (sponsored by Patron Tequila).
She invited me, my photographer Victor and my cousin David to the event. Shanice (IG @Shaniceonline) did a little preview of one of her latest songs (that hasn’t been released yet)! You’ll have to be patient, but I will tell you that her songs WILL give you the chills.
After listening to several songs that Shanice said, “Hurt people, hurt people.”
At first, I didn’t understand what it meant, but then it resonated with me when I thought of one of my ex-boyfriends who mistreated me in college. He hurt me because he was hurt. It inspired me to be good to those who hurt you because only hurt people hurt other people.
I spoke to her about my dreams of being a successful fashion and entertainment blogger, and she happily looked me in my eyes and said, “I remember when I had a vision board of me having my own TV show on Oprah’s network. I told myself, ‘I believe it’ and worked for it and now I am here.”
Through these two strong, powerful and influential people, I met a lady named Evelyn Mims (Connect with her on LinkedIn) (Happy Birthday!! She was born on March 8, also known as International Women’s Day).
Another inspirational lady who has accomplished so much in the entertainment industry. As one of the producers for “Atlanta and Company,” and currently the CEO of Mims Media Group, she is truly one of the leaders of this marvelous town called, “Atlanta.”
I am forever grateful for meeting these prominent people because it really empowers me to follow my dreams in fashion, music and entertainment.
Through these stories, I hope it will propels you to work hard, follow your dreams and never give up on what you believe in. Someone wise once told me,
“Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.”
Women like Mali, Shanice and Evelyn wouldn’t be who they are today, if they gave up on their dreams… right?
On that note, I have to talk to you all about my outfit!
I honestly had no idea what to wear to this event because I knew it wasn’t be a fancy event or a date with a handsome boy! I wanted to be classy and fashionable at the same time. So I decided to wear the “Liberty of Choice Dress” and the “Part of Me Spring Jacket.”
I thought it was the perfect outfit for this event because the dress is very tight, I mean it’s a total bodycon dress, but the length was appropriate for a professional event because it comes down to your knees. The material is made out of polyester and rayon (which makes it stretchy). Even though the dress is nude, it is not see-through (which is great!). I would recommend you to wear a strapless bra if you are planning on wearing this dress without a jacket because the shoulder straps will show due to the criss-cross details near the shoulder area. The length is appropriate and it doesn’t ride up. If you are worried about your stomach, just wear some SPANX and you will look fabulous!
The jacket…. Oh my, I love the jacket! I think motorcycle and edgy jackets are totally in these days and the black jacket complimented the nude dress very well. I think this jacket goes well with a simple dress because of all of the details! There are two zippers near the breast area, then it criss-crosses on the side and a button near the neckline. I realized that if you have a statement piece (like the jacket), accentuate it by wearing simple clothes and accessories with it.
Some people think more is better, but I believe less is better.
I wore some sexy black suede boots and my outfit was complete.
I hope this inspires you to be better in life (and fashion!). Until next time…
Xoxo,
